Manheim reveals October fall in used van prices

The price of used vans fell over the course of last month, it has been revealed.

In research carried out by Manheim Auctions, it was found that the typical wholesale price of such a second-hand commercial vehicle dropped by 4.7 per cent in October to stand at £2,790.

Such a figure, it was pointed out, is in comparison to the 4.8 per cent increase - the equivalent of £135 - that was noted in September and now brings the average value back to levels recorded in August.

A particularly dramatic fall in October was noted in the value of small panel vans which dropped 11.7 per cent, about £425, while the typical cost of car derived vans declined by 2.6 per cent.

Meanwhile, car vans are up 18 per cent in price, in news that could be of interest to those on the search for courier insurance.

Commenting on the figures, Alex Wright, sales director of commercial vehicles for Manheim Auctions, said: "Although disappointing, this decrease does bring the average value back to what was reported in August. A fall of this magnitude is in line with seasonal expectations."

In other news, Hyundai recently announced it is to enter the UK medium panel van market, with the launch of the iLoad next January.
